The blue section of each phylogeny indicates species of Cercopithecus with an arboreal lifestyle and the green section indicates species with a terrestrial lifestyle. (A) The strict consensus of the two most parsimonious trees from analysis of 179 Alu insertion polymorphisms. The numbers above the branches indicate the percentage of bootstrap replicates (10000 iterations) producing trees that include that node. Numbers below the branches indicate the numbers of unambiguous insertions supporting each node. (B) The collapsed version of tree A. Branches that did not gain statistically significant support in the likelihood test [32] were collapsed into polytomies. The significance level of each node is indicated by either * (p < 0.05) or ** (p < 0.01).
