Hierarchical clustering of the normalized bit scores for homologs for 33 foundling Nipi genes across the genomes of 238 species present in Ensembl (see Additional file 8: Table S7 for the list of species in the order they appear here). For each of the groups (fungi, invertebrates, etc.), the species are clustered independently. The colour code reflects the relative normalized bit score, from high (red) to low (blue) across the different species. The horizontal bar at the bottom marks the position of the five Caenorhabditis species, from the left to right, C. elegans, C. brenneri, C. briggsae, C. remanei, and C. japonica.
