Yellow color in the representative model of mantle indicates the expression regions of Pif (CNI_013832-RA), while blue color indicates the expression regions of LamG3 (CNI_014385-RA and CNI_014386-RD). The detailed information of spatial expression patterns of the three genes in the mantle tissue of C. nippona have been shown in Figure S20 (Additional file 1).
